Visa and Hong Kong Tramways to extend longest-ever promotion collaboration on the ‘Ding Ding’

Following the enthusiastic response from passengers to the previously launched HKD 1 off every HKD 3 contactless payment discount on Hong Kong trams, Visa, a global leader in digital payments, and Hong Kong Tramways announced the extension of their joint promotion period to July 31 this year, as a continuation of the longest-running promotion on the ‘Ding Ding’. From today onwards, passengers who tap to pay for their tram fare with a Visa contactless using credit, debit and prepaid card, or via mobile wallet provisioned with a Visa card, can enjoy a discount of HKD 1 for every single ride priced at HKD 31 as they continue to explore Hong Kong aboard the ‘Ding Ding” this spring and summer!
Visa and Hong Kong Tramways announced Visa’s payment acceptance launch on Hong Kong trams in July 2023, followed by the longest-ever consumer promotion offer to allow commuters and travelers from around the world to enjoy a seamless payment and riding experience via tap-to-pay with Visa every day. This collaboration signifies the ongoing digital transformation of Hong Kong’s public transport, providing passengers with more convenient travel to rediscover Hong Kong’s unique streetscape and local culture.
According to VisaNet2, the number of Visa transactions on transit systems (except air transport) in Hong Kong grew from a seven-digit figure in the first nine months of 2022 to an eight-digit figure in the same period of 2023. The total Visa payment volume on transit systems (except air transport) in Hong Kong for the first nine months of 2023 also surpassed the combined total number recorded in the first nine months of both 2022 and 2021. Since 2021, Visa has been working closely with local public transportation operators, relevant government departments, banks, and technology providers to drive digital payments across various public transportation modes and facilities. Most recently, Visa announced its support for MTR’s launch of contactless bank card payments, with the goal of creating a universally consistent, effortlessly seamless payment experience.
